  • BOOKAPP - A NEW SERVICE AND A NEW PRODUCT (BB News)

BOOKAPP - for book application - is the name of a new range of services dedicated to the development of the future of reading we created with our partner company OZWE.
Question such as: How devices like smart phones and iPad similar will affect the way we design, read and comment books, catalogues, annual reports, essay, novel or comics ? What to do with the huge existing collections? What can we expect from an augmented reading experience ?
We decided to be part of this big discussion and to be an active force of proposition in this field.
    1) BOOKAPP, as a product, is an answer to all small and medium editors that don't want to give their rights to huge company such as Google but struggle to find a solution to sell book online. On the website BOOKAPP.fr you can buy book application for iphone and ipad, based on the physical book, with the possibility to underline part of the text, make and share comments. It's simple, it's easy and it's very cost effective as we let the editors fix the price. More functionalities such as a research tool are currently being developed.
    2) BOOKAPP, as a service, is being proposed with success to company willing to do more with their traditional document, particularly in the field of Annual Report and Luxury Product Catalogs. Our approach is always to take the printed documents as a base-camp to numeric escapades. We deliver specific analysis and propositions for a deployment of these documents on new interfaces, taking advantage of the immersive possibilities they offer.

  • B&B augmented poster@Mudac - Design Museum Switzerland (BB News)

We had the chance to be invited by the Mudac to design a gift for the 10th year anniversary of the emblematic Swiss Museum.
We took the opportunity to create two augmented visuals printed on heavy canvas and enabling a birthday game using QRCodes.
This was also a nice opportunity to explore QRCodes both as a new augmented visual language and as a graphic expression of technology.
Visitors could appreciate the colorful posters and if desired go beyond and watch a selection of 50 birthday's videos and songs.
It was also a great experience to test how a large crowd would react in front of these kind of coded images.

  • Reinventing books, magazines and newspapers in the digital age (BB News)

60 (!) people attended our workshop at Lift 10 Conference with Frederic Kaplan about
"Reinventing books, magazines and newspapers in the digital age".

The idea was to work on a single theme - the little red riding hood - and reinvent new reading experiences from today's stable forms of reading (slide 29) and new interfaces.

All slides of the 20min. presentation here

We got a lot of positive feedback and great ideas where generated and presented.
A great summary of what was discussed by hubert guillaud  here (in french).

  • Game controllers project - poster 2 (BB News)

The game controllers book project, with Nicolas Nova, is reaching it's second phase.
We have now an exhaustive collection of pads, covering all major manufacturers, from which we took orthogonal calibrated photos, from a front, back and top points of view. This was essential for the analysis we wanted to conduct: pad generic shapes, buttons configurations and shapes, active/passive surface use, d-pad mechanisms, graphic symbols evolution, etc.
As the work continues, and as the intriguing beauty of these iconic human-computer interaction devices is getting revealed, we decided to produce episodically some side graphic artifacts - this time a poster.
